BIO

Dr. Ala Mokhtar holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Waterloo. Her research interests are in management accounting, in particular, in how management controls motivate employees. Among other topics, she has studied employee overwork, employee evaluation, and employees' identity with their colleagues. She has also examined accounting professionals' experiences with their clients, and how accountants cope with clients that act negatively towards them. Ala has presented her academic work across Canada, the United States, and Europe and has served as a reviewer, discussant and moderator for various accounting conferences. Before starting her academic career, Ala worked for PwC in the Middle East.
