About the area

Financial reporting, disclosure, corporate governance, executive compensation, auditing. These topics are in the headlines every day. Faculty in the Accounting and Financial Management Services area at DeGroote are researching these and other current issues in the industry.

Collaboration with industry, including accounting firms and regulatory bodies, is key to DeGroote’s Accounting and Financial Management Services area. Most faculty hold professional designations, such as CPA and CFA, as well as academic credentials including PhDs. This collaboration ensures that faculty research is relevant to the accounting profession and that student learning is aligned with industry practice.

Faculty members are highly cited and published in top-tier journals including the Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management Accounting Research and the Journal of Banking & Finance.

DeGroote’s accounting program emphasizes the fundamental theories and current issues in the field. Accounting courses in both the honours commerce and MBA programs are recognized by professional accounting organizations in Canada, and students are eligible to obtain advanced standing for earning a professional accounting designation.
